Betting Disputes

In the field of online betting, there are a number of complex disputes that can arise between operators and consumers. Regardless of whether this is a result of an amendment or revision to the terms of service or an error in the publication of odds for a particular event, betting disputes are typically raised as a result of actual winnings not matching what the consumer believes they’re entitled to.

Despite the origin of a given dispute, Egis will consider all of the variables and factors at play in order to offer consensus-based advice and consultation. While the scope of possible disputes varies greatly, typically they fall under one of the areas listed below.

Pricing disputes stem from disagreements between operators and consumers pertaining to when—and at what price—a particular bet was placed. When mediating such disputes, Egis considers a variety of factors, such as whether the published prices were made in obvious error, the origins of the disputed price and any additional extenuating circumstances on the part of either party that would affect the entitlement of the customer in question.
Disputes between consumers and operators arising due to bet timing are typically involve potential winnings being negatively impacted by operators who claim that the bet in question was placed past a certain cut-off time. While in the majority of cases such disputes result in refunds of the customer stakes, Egis nonetheless examines the evidence in order to offer advice pertaining to the implementation of any appropriate safeguards that can prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
As operators expand the scope of their service to offer new opportunities to their clients, confusion may arise due to the presence of any unclear explanations or terminologies surrounding the service in question. In such cases, Egis will examine the details of the dispute, any applicable precedent and apply common sense judgement in order to determine the appropriate course of action.
Gaming operators often have rules in place that void combinations of individual bets that would impact the probability of any related bets in the customers’ favour. In cases where customers allege their bets have been unfairly written out, our arbitration consultants look for the presence of any explicit rules dictating how related bets are handled by the operators in question in order to advise a fair, appropriate path forward based on the findings.
Common disputes related to cashing out arise when customers are simply unable to withdraw when desired, receive an incorrect payout amount or have their payout voided due to claims that winnings were made in error. In any of these cases, Egis will weigh in and advise how the withdrawal dispute should be handled.
When operators make a promotional offer available to customers, there are often conditions of participation that inform whether certain individuals are eligible. If consumers are negatively impacted by what they believe to be unjust exclusion from participating in a given offer, Egis will examine their claims and assess whether or not they were adequately informed of the conditions of the offer prior to placing their bet.
Many operators will limit the amount of winnings that customers can earn in a given period of time. When disputes arise from either party due to bets exceeding these advertised limits, our consultants work to analyse the house rules and assess whether the relevant information has been disclosed to customers in an acceptable manner in order to better determine the correct course of action that should be taken.
